At the aftermatch function, it was indeed a real great
occasion to see Hugo awarded his 30 Premier starts Jacket with his Mum & Dad present, and especially his Dad placing the Jacket on his shoulders. Very proud parents. This is the Tawa way, which was followed by the Tawa Haka performed by all his Peers. If you have not seen the Tawa Haka performed by Our Boys, you have missed one of the most heart-felt, passionate performances ever. Full credit to the Boys who can make a grown man have goose bumps and even bring a tear.
This was after a weekend at The Fortress with two impressive, fiercely competitive games on the Park. First up the Premier 2’s played MSP in an interesting game where MSP competed well, but could not do the finish. Once again our Boys just proved that they have what it takes – especially after winning the first round. Our forwards have proved time and again they can stand up to any pack, and can rely on a very handy
backline.
The Premiers came across an MSP team that was not travelling from the City to make up numbers. Most people I spoke to reckoned that the first half was one of the best seen from a competitive aspect. This was a game that looked like slipping away several times, much to the delight of the MSP Supporters I was standing with. But, our great game is an 80 minute game (minimum anyway) and so it was we took it with minutes to spare. Great
win.
The Colts played one of the best Teams in the competition for who knows how many years? They lost in the last minute or so, but proved that OBU are beatable. Look forward to a Final against these Boys.
Reserves got their visas stamped and went to Stokes Valley. SV have had a bit of a resurgence over the last 12 MONTHS OR SO, BUT THIS WAS NOT GOING TO DETER OUR Boys. Tawa took the game 37-34. Does not get much tighter than that.
Prezzies were beaten by Norths White 25-22. Guess there will be some Soul Searching on Wednesday night – or maybe searching for a bottle opener. Our Prezzies do not have a lot of losses. By the way, Prezzies day will be at Norths on 26 June. Our vote for a Host was lodged after consultation with the The Fonz.
