Another week closer to full competition starting with a home game against Petone at Lyndhurst on 10th April. Over the weekend I viewed a number of LIVE Rugby games in different countries around the world. We are so fortunate in godzone, but we have to remain vigilant. Some places still have no supporters at all.
Whilst watching a Japanese game, a player turned up with two tone pink hair. The vommentator suggested he looked like a parrot. The Commentator (did not catch his name) went on to say that he toured under Fred Allen overseas, “back in the day”. A player apparently got an “interesting haircut’ and did not get to play another game on tour. How things have changed – there are more interesting hair styles than the amount of technical moves
practiced for an 80 minute game. You see all sorts of styles and colours with players, supporters, coaches, managers, adults, children and yes, even presidents!!
On Saturday we had HOBM visit with three teams. Started with the colts, followed by premier 2 (another name change) and premiers. Pretty good rugby but somewhat disappointing when you cannot test your (Tawa) scrum due to a lack of front rowers in the opposing Team. Well I guess we will have to carry out the frustrations against Petone in two weeks time.
Probably the highlight of the day was Coey arriving at the clubrooms with an immaculate Charger 318. What a looker! The charger, not “mid-life crisis” Coey.
A huge surprise on friday night to the non-believers. The Canes took out a massive game on Friday night against the more favoured Highlanders. Once again our defence stood the test. The highlight of the night was Aaron Smith playing his 154th game for the Highlanders. Quite honestly, Nuggie looks like he has another 100 or more left in him.
Saturday night showed another upset. The Chiefs finally coming out of the “Bridesmaid” role. Clearly this is why the Teams have to have an up to 85 minutes mindset in their training schedule.
