Well that was an interesting weekend for Tawa Club Rugby. I got a lift with our Club
Captain Extraordinaire, Tony, to Redwood Park to watch the first half of the Colts vs The Axemen. The Junior Axemen turned up with 13 men. We had a full contingent, plus some. As a consequence, the game was played under the “Game On” ruling. Essentially it meant we had to match the 13 to ensure all the Boys did not go home without a game. But it also meant we had heaps of Interchange Players. I saw our Colts score 3 or 4 Tries and the Junior Axes score and convert a Try – 7 points. Tony and I
left at half time. Somewhat later I caught up with Tony (legendary Tawa Prop) King and asked how the game finished up. Got to be honest, I thought he had the Season mixed up – it sounded like he said 102 for 7.
Then to The Fortress at Lyndhurst. What a fantastic afternoon. I walked in to see Neil & Sue from Autocrash Repairs, our major Sponsors for the last 8 years or so at the main window. It has been a while since Neil & Sue have been down to watch a game due to Business commitments, but it sure was good to catch up. We had a lot of laughs and great discussion, with Sue on my right and Brian for ITM, Tawa (longtime Sponsor &
supporter) with Paul (the Mastermind) Malcolm on the other side. What an interesting spot to be. I could quite easily write most of what Sue and I spoke of, except when the Tawa Teams made mistakes – but on the other side ……. ?? I felt like I had led a sheltered life – do those things happen in real life??
Unfortunately I have run out of time to write a review of the two Premier games.
Once again in the Super Rugby a Team found out what 80 minute Rugby is about when you play the Crusaders! The Blues also continued their winning ways. The Canes are in a safe 3rd position, but count them out of higher honours at your peril.
Next weekend we have J’ville at home. Lets look towards a great turnout and a chance for our Boys to change their Ladder standings.
