At last we have some serious Club Rugby!! Three Tawa Teams travelled into the Valley on Saturday. Due to copious amounts of rain, two games were played at Mary Crowther Park. The Colts had to play under “Game On” rules due to Wainui’s lack of Colts.
The Premier Reserve took their game 74-0. Clearly not a lot to get out of that game, except it was probably better than beating each other up on Tuesday and Thursday. A shame from Wainui’s perspective, as they get nothing from the game either.
The Premiers fronted up to a game where the weather continued to get worse as the time wore on. No wind, but water that made for tricky handling. We took the game 31-3 which even though we won convincingly, Wainui never gave up. At least 5 times they put our Boys under a lot of pressure but could not cross. But in fairness, the Tawa
defence was awesome – reminiscent of last year and the year before whereby our Boys would not let other Teams cross unless they were truly worthy. It is one thing to attack, but defence has become vital over the last while and Tawa have become Masters in this facet of play. Did anyone notice the Chris Stirling Cup was not presented? And it was great to see Chris at the game.
The Super Rugby in the weekend was fast and furious – except for the whistle and Penalties. The only thing I got out of the Penalties was that both Teams were getting virtually the same amount. I have changed my opinion about D’Mac and his defence. However, when it comes to offence under pressure D’Mac leaves a lot to be desired. Why
would you kick straight to the best First Five in the World continuously?? He could still have time to improve. On a positive note – when did you last see a Blues Team play for a solid 80 minutes?? Great stuff!!
