What a cracker day at The Fortress – the Sun was out, the ground in pristine condition, and an early arriving crowd of Supporters. All we needed was some good Rugby and that we got with neither Ories or Tawa letting down their Supporters.
The Premier Reserve started the proceedings with a good open game played in very good spirit with great handling by both sides. Someone had to win and Ories took it 19-17, showing the very good level of competition at this grade between two teams of equal calibre. On the field for Ories was the
iconic Ma’a Nonu. Imagine the young Fellas running on the field to see Ma’a on the opposite side? A Guy most would have idolised during their childhood, to see him not only in person, but also kitted out. A story to tell your Father and Grandfather, and one day your Grandchildren!! Be sure not to exaggerate though. I take my hat off to Ma’a – this is Kiwiana at its best, giving back.
On to the Premiers. As always, the Ories Supporters turned up in their droves, not to be outdone by the Tawa Supporters. One tough game where no quarter was given or taken – as usual with Ories. There was a period where the game could have gone either way with both Teams stretching their arms.
Finally tawa broke through to gain a lead, but this only made the Ories fire up more. I could or possibly should mention Luke’s Penalty, but I wont because I know Luke’s Mum would have spoken to Luke about it already. Good on you Mum – one of our ardent Fans. And speaking of Icons, I only have one word for Whetu Henry – Legend!! Giving back, as noted above – what can you say? But, on the day it was to be Tawa’s day. Back to the top of the Table. Well done
Boys.
