Last Saturday was our third preseason game of the Season. The last two, Palmerston North
and Aotea were seemingly a lifetime ago. How good to be back at a Field watching Rugby. I
know it was not Eden Park, but the crowd watching was a dam good Club representation of
Spectators devoid and starved of our great game. Unfortunately, we never got the
opportunity to see our Colts have a run, but the Premier Reserve (Tawa & Ories) turned on a
pretty good display considering the lack of playing time. The Premiers had a tougher day at
the Office, but the potential – well it is certainly there to see.
Whilst watching the two Prem games a thought did cross my mind – Thank goodness I am
not a Coach and can go home and relax watching the Chiefs vs Highlanders game. Standing
on the side-line it was very apparent that it is “who do you leave out”, not, “who do you
play!!”. There was a plethora of talent on display for Tawa. Can’t wait for next week.
Just finished watching the Canes take on the Blues. What a shame we had to come out for
the second half. HUGE crowd saw a very fast game – except for the penalties!! There is a
serious lacking in a certain position for the Canes and this aint going to change anytime
soon. I thought our Forwards competed pretty well and our Backs showed potential, but we
need a more complete side – especially defensively. Well and truly gone are the days where
a Player can be one dimensional. That said, I shall be at Sky Stadium for the Canes vs
Crusaders. (No, Banksy, I am not taking Bets!!)
TV viewing this week – Second Chance Charlie. Now do not miss this program. There are
Five Rugby Players vying for a second chance at Rugby greatness. One from each Super
Rugby region. From the Hurricanes region is our own James Coburn – Prop extraordinaire,
Tawa Premier Captain and all round bloody good Guy! The program is on at 1930hrs on TV3
after The Project every Wednesday & Thursday for quite some time. I have it on good
authority that the TV people will be filming at our game against Avalon 27th June 2020.
