Hi ,
"Crouch, Touch, Set!" Already a familiar call and it is only Round 4 of the Super 15. The Hurricanes did not get off to the start they would have liked, but hopefully are back on track after Friday night with the major win over the Crusaders - not in terms of the score (29-28), but most definitely psychologically. I did plan to interview Dave Banks (our Chairman) for his thoughts on the game, but he said he was busy watching the Black Sox - his other passion. The Black Sox went on to win the World Softball Championship for a record-breaking sixth time. Hopefully the media get behind softball this time. There are not many sports where NZ is as dominant - in terms of actually winning World Championships in an individual sport.
Lyndhurst hosted the Wellington Club on Saturday for some pre-season hit-ups. The Colts started with the Firsts and Premiers following on. The beauty of pre-season games is to ascertain where individual players are with fitness etc and also ascertain how the team is progressing. There are more pre-season games planned for this Saturday. There are a number of new-comers in the training squad and this adds for excitement as peer pressure mounts for positions.
In case you were not aware, Holden won the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in the first V8 Supercar event of the year. This is the year of the COTF (Car of the Future) with two additional Brands in the series. We now have Holden, Blue Badge, Nissan and Mercedes Benz. Even more exciting was that the second race was won very convincingly by our Kiwi, Shane van Gisbergen.
