Lex Will

It is with extreme regret that we are advising of the passing of Lex Will on Saturday, a Life Member and the current Tawa Rugby Football Club Patron.

A celebration of Lex's life will be held at Tawa Union Church, Elena Place, Tawa on Thursday 29 March at 1.30pm.

Lex was born and bred in Southland in a town called Riversdale.

He attended primary school there and went on to Gore High School. After leaving school he played his rugby for Riversdale.

In 1948 Lex came to Wellington. Over the next 4 years he played for Athletic and Upper Hutt (but not at the same time).

He made the big move to Tawa in 1962 and has remained here.

Lex became involved in our Club through his son who wanted to play rugby and like many of us, he turned up and looked interested so was appointed a coach of the team. He later became a member of the Schoolboy Committee and was their Convenor for a period of time.

After his term as convenor, Lex was appointed to the position of Club Captain of the Senior Club.

Lex was President of the Club from 1971-1974. He coached our Premier side in 1977.

In 2007 Lex was made Patron of the Club, an honour that he is extremely proud of.

What does Old Timers Day mean to Lex?

As far as Lex is concerned, it is a day in which we honour all past members be they players, coaches, managers, administrators or supporters. It is a day for meeting old stalwarts and people who have made the Club what it is today. It is also an opportunity for many to acquaint themselves with the current playing members.
