Hi Club Captain Report What a week of extremes -not only with the great turnaround of the weather, today (29/3) we celebrated the life of Lex Will, our Patron and Life Member. Last night was the Wellington Rugby Football Union (WRFU) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and this afternoon I met our major club sponsor for the season.
Lex's send-off was very fitting for a man of great pride and a humble man. Lex's son Russell spoke of a dad proud of wellington rugby, southland rugby and very proud to be involved with the Tawa Rugby Club. Paul McEnaney gave an address on behalf of the Club. There was a grand turnout of Tawa Rugby Club ties - even collector ties from a bygone era. I think Lex would be looking down from the stadium upstairs and gently smiling about today, the win over the Blues by our Hurricanes last Friday and our Tawa man in the Highlanders, Shaun Treeby, scoring under the posts in his comeback game. Last night I attended the WRFU AGM. It was Jim Te Puni's first meeting in the chair as CEO and the Board advised a surplus in funds. A modest surplus, but a major step forward nonetheless. We witnessed three nominations for Life Membership for Nigel Hughes, Paul Quinn and Murray Usmar. It was indeed a privilege to be involved in the approval of these nominations. But the best was yet to come! Near the end of the AGM is when traditionally the Winners of all the grades etc, are read out and pennants are presented. After having been to many WRFU AGMs and watched others pick up their respective pennants, it was with immense pride I stepped forward to the Senior Vice Presidents and received the Grade Winner - Hardham Cup 2011. This afternoon I met with Neil & Sue Butterfield, Owners of Porirua Auto Crash Repairs Ltd, Kenepuru - our Tawa Rugby Football Club major sponsor for 2012. We also met with Chris from Kapi Mana News to discuss this wonderful community opportunity and present Neil and Sue with the Jersey showing off their corporate emblem on the front. I know our Premiers will wear the jersey with pride (as usual), and Neil and Sue will be at our first game to "talk the talk and walk the walk". Not long to go now - 7th April at Lyndhurst. Be there to show our Guys the Tawa Supporters depth. Allan Davidson Tawa Rugby Football Club
