Remembering Levaopolo Tutuila Manusina Livingstone Finau

Firstly on a very sad note, we have just lost one of our most loyal members, Levaopolo Tutuila Manusina Livingstone Finau - or to most of us, just call me ‘Levi’.

Levi was a real character around the club. He was always up for a conversation about rugby: whether it was about his whānau or the current state of club football in Wellington, Levi wasn’t backward in letting you know his opinion. Always with a big wide grin on his face. One piece of history Levi was always at pains to remind us was that he was one of the first Pacific Islanders to don the Tawa jersey. Now how true that is probably only Levi would know.

The family service is on Sunday 8th March at 6.00pm at PIC Porirua - Christ the King. The burial service is on Monday 9th March at 11.00am at PIC Porirua - Christ the King.

Our condolences to the Finau family during this difficult time.

Pre-season training

On a rugby note, pre-season training is in full swing with our first pre-season game now just around the corner on 14 March against the Ories, location TBA. 

If you haven’t been to training, it's not too late. The weather is perfect, the grounds are getting softer, and your team mates are waiting. Training is every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm the home of rugby, Lyndhurst Park 

Welcome to Ratu Naioroi

I would also like to formerly welcome Ratu Naroba to the club. He is a talented tight head prop from Gisborne coming to make his mark in Wellington. 

Welcome and all the best for the upcoming season.

Club matters

The club lost a section of its roof above the kitchen during the high winds a fortnight ago. Thanks to Tony Tomlinson and other club members for getting up early at short notice and securing the roof. Where would we be without volunteers!

Window leaks fixed!

All this is just another cost to the club.  We have any number of ways to 'promote’ anyone (individual or business) who supports the club (e.g., via Tawa Rugby TV, social media, ground signage, jersey signage, etc.,). So if you are able or know a business that would like to be linked and sponsor a community-minded organisation, there are plenty of options available. Please contact Banksy at 027 496 8372 and we will follow it up.

The first game of the senior season is Saturday 4 April when we are away to Petone with our first home game the following week against Paremata-Plimmerton. Make sure you put this in your calendar now. I’m sure the Paremata-Plimmerton team and supporters will be up for the game, especially after last year's nail-biters.

Another date to lock away is Saturday 16 May which is Old Timer's Day. We will be playing another close neighbour Johnsonville for the Carmen Cup.

Reminder to register your mini legends!

Junior registration is now open and closes on 1 April. Rugby is free for children 7 and under as at 1 Jan 2026, an initiative our junior committee are keen to expand to all junior ages from the 2027 season. Please send this to all family and friends who have school-age children. All you need to do is register via the following link:

The season is but a month away. I look forward to seeing everyone at the opening game against Petone on the 4th of April or sooner.
