As 2025 comes to a close, we want to thank every player, coach, supporter, volunteer, parent, and sideline commentator (you know who you are) for another brilliant year of Tawa rugby. From hard-fought games to memorable nights at the clubrooms, you’ve shown once again why this club is built on passion, pride, and hard work with a good dose of humor.

We ended the year at the annual AGM where our new club constitution was approved. This has now been lodged with the companies office.

Emma Paisley WRFU also provided an update on the premier competition review. There will be no change for 2026: however it is hoped that any change in format for 2027 and beyond will be agreed by clubs prior to the start of the 2026 season.

2026 Pre-Season Programme

Yes, team… Pre-season is coming and no, you can’t hide.

Steve So’oialo and his coaching group are already planning things that you will benefit from and probably won’t like!

Here’s what’s lined up:

Starts: Tuesday 13 January, every Tuesday and Thursday

Location: Tawa Rugby Club / Grass fields (depending on weather, motivation, and coach mood)

Our preseason program is coming together nicely. At this stage the following is proposed:

7 March: Feilding, AWAY

14 March: Ories, TBA

21 March: Norths, HOME

28 March: Linwood, HOME

Talking about coaches, we have new additions to the senior club coaching group. Welcome Jason Adamson, Chris Middleton, and Junior Togia.

To assist in our coaches' continued growth, Tawa Rugby Club icon and life member Chris Boyd has agreed to be the club’s coaching mentor. As we know, Chris has a wealth of coaching experience at all levels of the game and he is well aware of the importance of the community game.

It's great to see Chris sharing his experiences where it all started for him back in the 60s.

May your holidays be filled with sunshine, laughter, and absolutely no beep tests. May Santa deliver new boots, fewer injuries, and maybe even a ref who appreciates our creative interpretations of the offside rule.
