Well, if you're a TRFC and Canes supporter, you'll be enjoying King Charlie's birthday long weekend - and long may the King live. ;)

20,330 in attendance at the Cake Tin on Saturday night enjoyed a concert atmosphere with some entertaining footy in-between. Not a polished performance by the Canes, but a good result to secure fourth on the ladder and a rematch vs the Brumbies in Canberra next week.

Our Premier 2s kicked off the local derby with Norths in fine but windy conditions.

George G's boys were looking forward to this one and they didn't disappoint with a 31-27 win. After Tawa leading early, the Norths got their noses in front 14-10, but Tawa finished the first half strongly to gain back the advantage. The Norths played well and traded try for try to make for an action-packed second half until they ran out of time 1m from the Tawa line to snatch the game.

Our Premiers were dominant with a 54-24 scoreline vs the Norths to retain the Sam Saili Memorial Trophy, showing glimpses of a champion team against an always hard to beat Norths. Sam was a well-respected and valued member of both clubs, and for those who knew him, it's fitting that we still honour him with this match. The win gives us 31 points and places us eighth on the ladder with the Ories still out in front unbeaten on 40 points. The standout for all the wrong reasons are OBU, the Jubilee Cup holders ninth on the ladder with 20 points and securing only two wins from nine games.

So just the two TRFC matches to report on this week due to the long weekend. BYEs for all other grades, but a full round next week for our returning President Stevo to comment on.

A big thanks to Tony T for MCing the after-match function who must've felt deserted with most club administrators absent due to various matters but mainly the big match in town I suspect.

In addition to taking care of business, he managed to serve up his famous chilli con carne as well! Legend mate. Just on the legend subject, it's good to see the Hurricanes' most successful coach @ 76.5% win ratio back from Munster. Name not necessary and hope that he might share a couple pearls of wisdom if required. Welcome home 'Floyd'.

Lastly, looking forward to next week's TRFC Premiers v the Axemen match at Hataitai Park for the Murray & Alan Mexted Cup. Let's get out there and support our boys for another significant cup game, and good luck and preparation to all our teams for their matches.
