PREMIER REPORT
Tawa vs OBU, 05.04.25
Some people would call this "Redemption Day", especially for those who were there
last year at the Jubilee Cup final - the feeling at the final whistle to know that the game could have gone our way.
That was last year, and like every good story, we closed that chapter and started a new one.
Players have come, and players have
gone, and like our Premier story, they have gone to start their new chapters.
After what we thought was a pretty good pre-season, we weren't too fazed about playing OBU first up. We downplayed the hype and focused more on our team build-up and connections with our Colts and Prem Reserves.
2.45pm, the whistle blew, the boys were given their last orders from this year's leaders of the pack, Lotu 'I'm not blind, but I can't see' Nuku and Matolu 'No handbrakes' Petaia. Apparently, their final words were, "There is no I in team, but there are two of them in Winning." And with that, the boys were ready to write this year's story.
The Wellington referees must've got our memo. Like us, they had a veteran of the game blowing his whistle and, at one part, tried to tackle Rewiti 'Are my flag highlights on TikTok' Katene-Leat.
The game was played at an intense speed. Collisions were hard and some good tries were scored by both teams. But like every game, there can
only be one side that takes the win. To come away with a win for a first game against a good side was a good result for the boys. It was never about payback from 2024. It was about what we could and, can do.
Special mentions to all the new players to the club and to all our returning players.
