It was another awesome weekend of code.

I just watched England demolish the woeful Welsh and then France slowly dismantle a very competitive Scotland to win the Six Nations. Whatever team the French bring out for the July internationals against the ABs is going to be more than competitive. This is a reflection of not only having probably the best domestic competition in the world, but also the professional second tier competition that they have had in France since rugby went professional in 1995.

The Super Rugby competition just keeps on giving. The Canes v Landers and Blues v Chiefs were cliffhangers, played with real passion in front of good sized, boisterous crowds. We're even seeing some off-field innovation with the introduction of a kids round played in superhero jerseys. Great to see the mighty Canes chose Captain America, aka Steve Rogers! 😎

Onto local news. Tawa played their first pre-season game on Saturday against the Norths at Mana College with a late morning kick-off. We had over 60 players taking part, with heaps of passionate support from both clubs. It was played in 5 x 20 minute sections. I'm not sure why this was the case, but it might have had something to do with Homegrown being in town and the players wanting to multitask!

Next week we are off to Christchurch to take on Linwood, who won the local premier competition last year for the first time in 50 years. Tawa has a long connection with Linwood, with this being Paul McEnaney’s club before he came to Tawa. Pepesana Patafilo played there when with the Crusaders, as well as Ben Amore.

Not only should this be a good hit out, but there is nothing like a weekend away to bring the club together.

2025 PROFILE PHOTO SHOOT

Our 2025 profile photoshoot is being held this Tuesday 18 March at 6.00pm at the Senior Clubrooms. Whether you're a player, coach, manager, or committee member, this is your chance to be part of the club's history, so come along to get your photo taken.

JUNIOR REGISTRATION NIGHT

Remember that the Juniors have another registration night coming up: this Friday 21 March at 5.30pm, at the Junior Clubrooms. Remember to sign your kids up if you haven't already at https://www.tawajuniorrugby.co.nz/!

We are also still looking for old rugby photos (not necessarily team photos) that we can include in a slideshow at Old Timers Day. If you have anything, can you please dust them off, scan them, and send them to amyvnz@gmail.com and we can do the rest.
