In Memory of Mark Burgess, aka "Burgo"

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Burgess, a cherished member of the Tawa Rugby Football Club. Mark's journey with our club began in 1970, at the age of five, the same year as Paul Malcolm and they became lifelong friends. His commitment and passion for rugby were evident from the start.

In 1978, Mark played for the Tawa College First XV. After leaving school in the early 1980s, Mark continued to make his mark, playing age-grade rugby for several years before earning his place in the premier team.

Although finding game time was challenging due to the high level of competition among the inside backs, Mark's dedication to training was unparalleled. No one was more committed than Mark.

Mark's passion for sports extended beyond rugby. He later took up bowls, where his dedication once again shone through, leading to significant success at the center level. Mark was also a skilled cricketer, softballer, golfer, and table tennis player.

Despite his many talents, the Tawa Rugby Club always held a special place in Mark's heart. He bled red, gold, and blue, embodying the spirit of our Club in everything he did. 

Mark served as Club President from 2012 to 2014, a period marked by his active involvement and leadership. He played a pivotal role in organizing the TRFC Opening Day Celebration in 2014, following the club's triumph in winning both the Swindale Shield and the Jubilee Cup in 2013.

Even after his presidency, Mark remained a steadfast supporter of the Club, watching premier games live or through Tawa Rugby Live from all over the world. His unwavering support and dedication to the Tawa Rugby Football Club were truly remarkable.

Mark, you will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of the Tawa Rugby community, and your memory will continue to inspire future generations. Thank you for everything you have given to our club.
