Counting down to Saturday's highly anticipated Jubilee Cup Final between

Tawa & OBU, have a read of Phil Edgecombe's (TRFC Super Supporter)

review of the last 3 finals.

2013

Tawa 26 - 21 Ories

In our last game of 2012, a decent loss to HOBM at the Hutt Rec, I thought to myself this Tawa outfit is decent, they have some potential.

Never in a million years would I have dreamed of the fairytale that 2013 brought.

Jubilee Cup #1

The season however, continued that surge upfield. Tawa got on a roll, and from week to week the confidence grew. They ticked off the Swindale Shield, then took out the Jubilee Cup in a near perfect season.

The final that day was played at the Hutt Rec. And the atmosphere was immense. 66 years we waited for this moment, to be crowned Wellington Club Rugby Champions.

2016

Tawa 24 - 20 MSP

Apart from arguably taking down Norths, it doesn’t get better than beating MSP.

Tawa’s second Jubilee Cup came only three years after its first. Club rugby in Wellington is steeped in history from city clubs. Poneke, Petone, MSP, on repeat. Suburban clubs simply didn’t win in the 20th century. Not anymore.

Junior Togia played an absolute blinder dotting down twice at Jerry Collins Stadium, bamboozling the MSP defence at will. Later that day the Hurricanes won their one & only Super Rugby championship; the real party was at Lyndhurst that night.

2021

Tawa 36 - 7 MSP

In my eyes, our third Jubilee Cup crown was all wrapped by half-time up 18-nil. Leading 7-0 Tawa put a chip over the top of the rush defence, collected on the full by Va’a-Brooking, & spun it wide for Hauiti-Parapara to score out wide.

Tawa were peaking. This was annihilation. We even had two incredible tries disallowed, to this day I still don’t know why. We could’ve cracked 50.

How do you sum up perfection like that? Former Tawa captain Filisione Koloamatangi never looked so good in a netball dress, there was red/blue/yellow everywhere.

Tawa finished the regular season in 6th this year, MSP were top. They were favourites.

What made this victory so beautiful is that MSP knew they were going to win. They didn’t even fire a shot. The only people unsurprised were Tawa.
