Rugby

Almost half-way through the first round, with Round 7 this weekend at home for Old Timers Day. Johnsonville will cross the “county line” on Saturday with a full complement of senior teams. The Johnsonville Premiers are two spots above us on the ladder, and no doubt wish to stay there. 

Last week, we were very unlucky to not take the Premier game. The game against HOBM was a fast game with good plays from both sides. I would suggest the Hawks should be a little concerned. Our boys will be keen to retrieve the Arthur Carman Cup. It's great to have Kemara Hauiti-Parapara back after a southern sojourn, and Lipa Saveatama returning after an extended time away from the game due to leg surgery. 

The Premier 2s jumped two spots on the table after a good win against HOBM. This week we should see our P2s continue their winning ways, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Our Colts will be looking for a turnaround in their fortunes this week. A reminder, the Colts are playing on Friday night at The Fortress. 

The Ducks will be at Redwood on Saturday, quackers blowing, to take on the Johnsonville Terrahawks. Always a good cross-county encounter.

Under 11s fundraising

The Tawa Rugby Club Under 11s are hard at work fundraising to get to the Taupō Rugby Tournament in September. They are currently running a roti and butter chicken sauce fundraiser:

If you'd like to support the team and buy some delicious food for dinner, complete the Google form by Friday 1st June. 

They will also be running a sausage sizzle and raffle at Old Timers Day, which you can read about below.

Old Timers Day

A reminder that Old Timers Day is coming up this Saturday, 18th May. Join us for a day of nostalgia and rugby fun at the Tawa Rugby Football Club!

Start your day of rugby by watching a junior game from 9.00am. Then kick-off is at 12:00 pm with the Presidents vs Johnsonville, followed by the Premier 2s vs Johnsonville at 1:00 pm, and the Premiers vs Johnsonville at 2:45 pm. 

As part of their fundraising efforts to get to the Taupō Rugby Tournament in September, the Under 11s will be running a sausage sizzle, as well as selling bacon butties, chocolates, baking, and drinks (cash and online bank transfer). They will also be running a raffle for a $200 grocery voucher. 

Let the kids loose on the bouncy castle and soak up the post-match atmosphere with delicious food and tunes from our DJ.

Motorsport

Supercars will be racing at Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint this weekend. The two Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet Camaros fill the top spots, and personally I do not see that changing after this weekend. 

In the meantime, Formula E had two races in Misano last weekend. On Sunday Mitch Evans came in 5th, with Nick Cassidy 19th. Fortunes changed on the Monday, with Cassidy coming in 3rd and Evans in 19th. On the ever-important ladder, Cassidy is still number one with Evans in the 5th spot. Both drive for Jaguar TCS Racing, and as a result of their placings, Jaguar is leading the teams competition by 44 points – but as we know in motor racing, things can change rapidly.

We will be at the Fortress on Friday night and Saturday to welcome our neighbours and especially welcome our Old Timers.
