Hi ,
How about this wonderful weather we have been having? I think we are making up for the Summer we missed out on. Chilly mornings, but who cares when the Sun comes out.
My last Saturday started early watching my Granddaughter, Ella, playing Netball at Porirua Netball Courts. From there it was off to Fraser Park for their Old Timers Day. I was in plenty of time to watch Avalon Women vs Poneke Women. Although the score was a bit of a blowout, Poneke never gave up. Avalon accuracy was probably the difference.
I spent
the afternoon with Michael Langley (since departed to take up CEO role with Wellington Hockey) and Gary Gosper from Avalon, along with a good contingent of Wainui Guys - Gerard, Larry, Chris and my old Mate Peter White along with a heap of others. Both the Premier 2's and the Premiers were very good Games. Avalon lost the P2's Game against Wainui by 2 points in the last moment of the Match. An enjoyable Game. The Avalon vs Wainuiomata Premiers had a draw with an incredibly close Game throughout.
There was a rather large Crowd at all three Games at Fraser Park and also a great bunch of Old Timers at the after match function. A Womans Player and a Premier Player were presented their Club Jacket for 50 Games along with "Cap" presentations for a couple of Old Timers who had played over 100 Games.
Our Premiers had a convincing win against Poneke placing them at 8th on the Table. To
my reckoning, we need two 5-pointers over the next two weeks to cement our spot in the Top 8.
Our Premier 2's continue their winning way. I can't wait to catch up with Zac and see that great smile of pride! Well done Boys!!
After an interesting start to the season, our Colts
are getting into their stride. Another win vs Poneke puts them into 3rd on the Table.
Tawa Ducks had a convincing win against Poneke. Heard a lot of positive comments about the 1st and 3rd Generation photo of Paul Mac and "G Mac" featured in the last Newsletter.
The Reserves
had a win against the Axemen.
Super Rugby had their Quarter Finals last weekend. Where would this level of Rugby be without controversy? What could have been, what should have been, what would have been - Didn't!! As I have always said "if the Cat didn't .......". There were a few occasions where the Canes could have put the Game away, but you cannot take it from the Brumbies.
Still a great Game. I felt sorry for the Referee (no, nothing to do with the last Ardie dive over the line), for once Nick White went off, he had no-one giving him continuous advice on the running of the Game. Geez, I think White will go into Politics after Rugby! I am not knocking his ability as a World Class player - but yap??
On to the Semis. The Crusaders, with heaps of injuries vs
the Blues on Friday night. Then the Chiefs hosting the Brumbies on Saturday night. If the Crusaders and the Chiefs come through, I reckon we are in for a spectacle not to be missed.
