Hi ,

Not long to go now until kickoff for our Club Season! We had another pre-season game last
Saturday against HOBM at The Fortress. A typical Sunny Tawa day with the heat being the
winner again. Some very parched boys all around. A usual pre-season hit out, with good
plays and simple mistakes. I think our boys won the “high tackle” count. I was watching with
a HOBM Old Boy whose son was playing #6. During the game he suggested to me that the
Coach (when HOBM come back to play us) remind their first five to kick the ball high when
looking for advantage. Cripes, a bit of a worry – must have been nerves?? But in typical
Tawa style, we are not concerned at this early stage.

Friday night had us back at the stadium for the Canes vs Waratahs. A good game with
Ardie’s return, leading from the front as usual. Started off very competitive with a bit of
twoing and frowing with a score of 17-12 at half time. It was definitely a Team effort, but
two Players of note were Naholo looking the part and Roigard growing with every game.
And what about the cheer when Colesy got his try? – effervescent and ageless as usual!

Two of our Tawa Boys debuted in Super Rugby over the weekend. PJ Sheck debuted for the Highlanders in their first win of the Season. PJ did not get long on the field, but did his work well, within the gameplan. Given a bit of time I believe PJ has what it takes to be a very good Prop. 

He has always had a great work ethic and this experience can only help to propel him
to the top.

Our other debutant was Pepesana Patafilo for the Crusaders. Once again, Peps came on
fairly late in the piece, but he looked fired up. Peps had a couple of chances to do what he
does best, tackle then get up straight away. Unfortunately he saw no ball to talk of, but I
would suggest the Coaches would have seen his potential.

On the subject of the ‘Saders, that game vs the Blues was the game of the weekend. One
hell of a game that kept everyone (especially Banksie) on the edge of their seat. Some great
tries scored by both Teams.

Our Canes Poua had a tough day against the competition Leaders and last years Champions, Chiefs Manawa. A tough game for our Girls, but a marked improvement score wise on their encounter in the first round. Our Girls finished the season on 4 points, but only one point behind number 2 & 3 in the Competition.

BREAKING NEWS!! We will have real Coffee upstairs from our first Home Game on 8 th April. In co-ordination with Charlotte and our Committee, we have decided to invest in a
Nespresso machine for that “real coffee” flavour for our Supporters, Players – or indeed
anyone. By the following Home Game we will have food other than Chippies or fried food.
Nothing like a progressive Club – Tawa naturally!

WORKING BEE | 25 MARCH 2023 

Keen for a BBQ, beer or two and some laughs? 

The committee has noticed a number of items that need a bit of attention, and thought it would be a great idea to round up everyone one for bit of Mahi before the season kicks off. 

Ideally we want a team leader for ever task with a few helpers to smash them out. 

Things that need to be done: 

• Clean out the Garage
• Fix the spouting
• Clean the gutters
• Fix the flag pole
• Trim the trees for live streaming
• Clean the all the windows
• Clean the Kitchen
• Clean the Weights Room
• Clean the Bathrooms
• Clean the Showers
• Prem 2 Changing Room | Re Gib and Paint, fix door
• Visitors Chaning Room | fix the holes
• Light fittings | make sure they are all working
