Hi ,
Been a couple of weeks since my last Newsletter, and what a lot of rugby has happened. Round 1 of Super Rugby saw the Canes whip the Reds, and then week 2 taking out the Rebels after a second half
fade - the Canes were up 24-7 at half time. Mind you, a Yellow card just before half time followed by a Red just after half time meant 15 vs 13 for some time. The next game was finally at home with Ardie out due to (in my opinion) a "Media Bashup". I mean, REALLY! At the end of the game, Ardie gave an impassioned apology. What else do you want from a player who has given so much to our game? I guess profile is with its own "Tall Poppy" dangers. PC gone stupid. Not long now until the first player
to get a suspension for swearing is recorded!
Our Hurricanes Poua had a bit of a wake up call against the Chiefs in the 1st round followed by an incredibly tight win against Matatu in the 2nd round and a loss to Blues Women last weekend. Great to have the Ladies play at home before the Canes. The Ladies next game is against Chiefs on Sunday for a place
in the Finals.
Last weekend saw the
start of the new Gen 3 Super Cars at the Newcastle street race track. The first race of the Season was won by Shane van Gisbergen in his new Camaro with his Red Bull Team Mate, Broc Feeney in second and won convincingly - that was until two blue badge teams protested. As a consequence both Red Bull Camaro's were disqualified. Well that is one way that blue badges can win. Sunday saw an inform van Gisbergen come from 5th on grid and more than 10 seconds behind the Leader with about a dozen laps
to go, to round up Mostert in a blue badge and pass him. One of the classic drives for sure. Not so sure The Giz did not do such a good job with the Media after the race. at the time of writing we are yet to hear of the Red Bull appeal outcome. Next race is Melbourne when Formula One comes to town.
IndyCar made their first appearance for the season at St Petersburg with 3 Kiwis in the race, Scott Dixon, Scott MacLaughlin and Marcus Armstrong (Rookie). Dixon came in 3rd, MacLaughlin 11th after
an incident while vying for first after a pit stop, and Armstrong a meritable 12th.
