Hi ,
Another great weekend of Rugby, with an awesome show at
Eastbourne.
Friday night was another cool evening at The Fortress with our Colts playing Petone.
Once again, a very good crowd watched a very even, exciting game – until the last 10 minutes. Our WRFU President, Alan Muir, along with WRFU VP Martin Isberg were both witnesses to a great spectacle.
Both guys mentioned the standard of the two teams and the game to me when I caught
up with
them on Saturday. The match was very even until the last 10 minutes when Petone scored two
identical long range tries to take out the Win. Seems we still have a discipline issue to be addressed.
I am sure we have the guys to rectify this.
Saturday afternoon found me at Eastbourne watching the Tawa Ducks U85’s. From the moment I
arrived I noticed something I have not seen since we had an U85 Team some years ago. It was
memorable; from the Supporters, Doreen, Paul Mac, Des, Dennis, Brent, Chris, Steph, Heather and a number of other Tawa-ites, through to the Quackers (Dennis & Brent –
and I did try to recruit Doreen). The above named seemed to have a fair part of the Team related as well. You had to be there! The Game was somewhat one-sided, score wise, but the spirit in which it was played was, assaid above, memorable. The Duck Quackers/Callers added a dimension of support second to none.
And not surprising was not only the camaraderie within our team, but also spread to
the other
Team. It took a couple of years to get it together with Mitchell’s help, but once the movement got to Jonty and Jono and no doubt a couple of others, things started to evolve. Seems I recognised a number of the players, not the least being Adam Preston and Matt Treeby. I have done a little bit of digging and I have figured that between Tawa College and Tawa RFC, Matt may well have played over a thousand Games in the Gold, Red and
Blue – and a number of Retirements thrown in as well. Good on ya Matt!
Our Premiers got back to their winning way out at Oriental-Rongotaiputting them back
into Ladder contention.
The Premier 2’s had a tough day at the Office with a Draw – still
unbeaten.
Our Reserve Boys had a convincing win against OBU Righteous Bros. I had the
Prezzies score sent through to me and it seems they just kept The Fortress with a Draw.
Super Rugby was on fire. Reds beating Ladder Leaders, Chiefs; Hurricanes hammering
Moana
Pasifika; and Highlanders on a hiding to nothing.
New Zealand Sevens Men & Woman won their respective Tournaments in
Toulouse.
