Hi ,
It feels like the weather is letting us know that Winter is on its way for sure. Round
11 of the Super Rugby produced some interesting scores. Once again the Highlanders are in unfamiliar territory with a hammering from the Ladder Topping Chiefs, but what about Fijian Drua taking the Hurricanes and the Blues just heading off Moana Pasifika?? For many years I have been an advocate of Pacific Rugby and I feel a lot of us are being vindicated. The Fijian Drua are heading in the right direction, and with a little more consistency results will turn. Moana Pasifika just need to hold
this team together for another Season and their results will come as well.
Round 6 of the local competition had The Villagers at The Fortress. Hell of a
day with us winning one Battle and losing the other. Our Premier 2's kept on their winning way, taking out Petone 2's in a hard fought match. After watching Petone vs Poneke last Saturday, I thought our Premier Game vs Petone would be close at the least - not to be.
As part of my VP duties, I was at Onepoto watching Norths and
Oriental-Rongotai. A similar result to ours, with Norths Premier 2's taking a win and Ories winning the Premier Game.
Friday night was at The Fortress where we saw our Colts have a convincing,
but a wee bit stroppy, win over the Axemen. Club Captain Tony and I went past the Axemen changing room before the Game and the "super loud" message was (as Tony said and I agreed) a flash back to the 70's! Wow, that aint healthy! It was a bit of a shame some of the verbal rubbish continued during the Game from those in charge.
The U85's took out HOBM at the Hutt Rec. The U85's are currently 4th equal on
points with their next outing at Eastbourne. The Clubrooms at Eastbourne tie with MSP as the best Club views in Wellington. If you have not been there, you have missed a great spectacle.
Our Reserve side had a tough day against J'ville Cripples - clearly not too
crippled.
On the Motor Racing front, there was a Formula E Race at Monaco last weekend.
Technically, New Zealand occupied the whole Podium; ie, 1st, 2nd & 3rd. First was Nick Cassidy, Second, Mitch Evans and no-one remembers 3rd - EXCEPT - the Driver was in a McLaren race car - and we all know of Bruce McLaren, one of our greatest Drivers and car developers. So technically 3 Kiwis on the Podium. By the way, Kiwis have won the last 4 Races - awesome achievement.
