Hi ,

Round 5 proved to be another great week of Rugby around the region. Paremata-Plimmerton continue as the "Giant Slayers" with a win over HOBM. J'ville had a tight win over Ories and Upper Hutt Rams keep on winning with a win over Norths. Petone scored a large win over Poneke for their Old Timers Day, of which I represented the WRFU. Talk about packed! I reckon they were two people short of their maximum amount allowed in the Clubrooms. 

Lets hope this continues at higher levels. The Rams continue at the top of the Table. There is something very peculiar going on in Wellington Club Rugby when you see the likes of HOBM, Norths and Poneke languishing at the bottom of the Table - in my opinion, not good for Wgtn Rugby. Still, "make hay while the Sun shines".

Tawa Premiers had a score against Wainuiomata that I know Wainui would not like to dwell on. Great to see Kemara Hauiti-Parapara back in his rightful Team.

Premier 2's just keep doing it. An awesome bunch of young Men gelling together and enjoying the Tawa culture. This week end will be a tough day at the Office as they come up against another Team at 5 and 0 on the Ladder. Petone come off a tough game against Poneke last weekend, and this could be the Game of the weekend as our "runaway train" keeps momentum.

Last Friday, I opted to watch our Colts play under the lights at The Fortress. At the CRSC Meetings I attend, we have been advocating for sometime the playing of Colts Games on Friday nights. The attendance of Supporters was great with a number of Prem Players from both divisions watching as well as the whole sideline full of people. Talking with our Coaches, it seems Friday night is good, but an earlier time would be preferable - say 1900hrs. This info has been passed on to CRSC. About the Game - WOW!! I always figure that Colts Rugby is the place to measure what is really happening in Club Rugby. If indeed that could possibly be true, then Tawa Rugby is in a good place and in good hands. Well done Young Men!

The Tawa Ducks (aka U85's) continue on their winning way with a win over HOBM. It would appear that the Ducks are slowly, but surely returning to where they used to be (Ladder-wise) when we last had an U85 Team.

Our Reserve Grade team faced a formidable opponent in the Poneke Ruffnutts. Despite their best efforts, our team struggled to keep up with the Ruffnutts and went down 19-74 at Kilibirnie Park. It was a tough day on the field, but our players showed great resilience and sportsmanship throughout the match.

Meanwhile, our Presidents team faced off against Paramata Plimmerton at Ngati Toa Domain. It was a hard-fought game, but unfortunately, our team came up short with a 40-48 loss. 

The Canes had a hard fought win over the Brumbies, placing the Canes in 3rd on the Ladder. The Chiefs vs Crusaders lived up to the hype, with the Chiefs taking it away. To beat the 'Saders once is pretty dam good going, to have the same Team beat them twice is "History in the making".

Talking of History - Scott McLaughlin won the Children's of Alabama Indy Grand Prix on Monday morning (our time). Scott started 4th, with Scott Dixon 5th and Marcus Armstrong well down and spending some of the race time in 25th spot. Dixon ended in 7th, with Armstrong 11th - a great result for the Rookie. Armstrong was completely taken by surprise to be presented with a Trophy for being the Best Mover in the Race. Like McLaughlin, Armstrong is a Man to watch in IndyCar Racing.

Last weekend the Supercars raced in Perth at the Bosch Power Tools SuperSprint. There were 3 Races over the weekend, one on Saturday and two on Sunday. Race 7 had Shane van Gisbergen winning with young Will Brown 2nd and Reynolds (blue badge) 3rd. On sunday's Race 8, Will Brown took 1st whilst his Team Mate Brodie Kosteki took 2nd and Courtney (bb) 3rd. Race 8 had Broc Feeney 1st, Brown 2nd and Kosteki 3rd - what is it about those Chevys?? Next SuperCar Race Meeting is the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint 19-21 May - I hope to be there. By the way,we have another up and coming Driver in the Super2 driving a Commodore with two Podium places on the weekend - Ryan Wood.

This weekend we have The Villagers coming to The Fortress to no doubt continue their trek up the Ladder. Also, we have our Colts at home again on Friday night.
