After a break from TRFC, Tony returned in 1977, having played for the successful Tawa College 1st XV in 1975/76. He went on to play for the U.19 team that played the curtain-raiser to the ABs vs. Lions at Athletic Park, a match that Tawa won 12-4 against Rongatai College, the only other unbeaten team in the U.19 1st division.
Tony made his debut for our senior team in 1979 and was also part of the second team's promotion to J.1s in 1980. As per the tradition of our club, players move up and down between the two top teams to achieve the best outcome for the club, and Tony continued to play competitive rugby through the '80s.
He was a member of the 1987 Murray Mexted-led Senior team that was promoted to Senior 1st for the first time in the club's history. After that, Tony played out the rest of his rugby career with the Tawa Presys, maintaining his commitment and passion for the sport.
Tony's contribution to TRFC extends beyond his on-field
exploits. He served as Club Captain from 1995-97 and was President from 2005-06. He continues to support the club to this day, offering discounted electrical prices.
Once again, congratulations Tony on this well-deserved recognition. Thank you for your years of dedication, service, and commitment to TRFC. We wish you all the best in your future
endeavors and hope you continue to be a part of our rugby community.
