Club Notice

Hi ,

It has been a few years since we appointed a Life Member for the Rugby Club, Gary Beecroft was the last back in 2018.

This year the Club welcomes three new Life Members.

Being awarded a Life Membership is the highest honour the Club can bestow on one of its members. It's an uncommon award, making it even more highly prized by the recipient, and a member will normally only be nominated after a considerable period in harness.

TONY TOMLINSON | LIFE MEMBER 2022

Tony was drafted on to the Committee some 24 years ago, but he started out in the Junior Club as a 5 year old in the Bantam Grade, then as a Senior Club player for a number of years before finishing off his playing days with the Presidents.

Tony has Coached our Under 19 teams and 85s team as well as managing our Colt’s team, with a number of seasons as Premier Manager. Just this year he has returned to manage our Colts team again while being Club Captain as well.

Tony has been a huge assistance to Amy with all her decorating and planning for functions and particular the 75th. Tony would just turn up and say "Amy tell me what you want done?" and he would be away, Amy would be firing orders and instructions...

Most Saturday’s morning while we are all still in bed Tony will be down the Club sorting out changing rooms and fields for Saturdays games. You will also see him here most Sunday mornings as well, doing a quick clean up of the place once again while we are all still in bed.

But one of his biggest undertakings on a Saturday evening, is his world-famous curried sausages. Which this year even got a mention in Club Rugby news. Something that saves the Club a huge amount of money and the players love and appreciate.

Tony is a true Club man and I have yet to find anything that tony won’t do to help and support the Club. He always has the Club’s best interest at heart Tony is the true quite achiever.

A hugely humble man who just gets on with things and gets them done. When I told Tony I was going to nominate him for life membership his first response was no I don’t deserve it and if you do I will quit. Typical Tony.
