Hi ,
We are drawing closer to the end of the Season proper for Club Rugby. It has been a strange time for Sport over the last 3 Seasons, due to Covid and the aftermath. I have a feeling we will be back to "normal" next Season - well here's hoping anyway. On that subject, I really hope we get back to a promotion/relegation competition. Essentially it gives every Team something to fight for instead of being there by right. After-all, one does
not go to the Commonwealth Games to just participate, you go to compete amongst your peers and show the World who is the best on the day.
Due to traffic (an accident I believe), I missed the Hardham Cup Game at Jerry Collins Stadium. However, I was there for the Jubilee Cup Match between Norths and Petone. Now this was worthy of a Final, with Petone going into half-time at 13-12. The skill set shown by both sides was brilliant. Plenty of action, heaps of drama and two Teams doing their Club and Supporters proud. By the way, one of the largest crowds I have seen at a
Final. One thing about having the Final at Porirua is that the Locals are going to turn up whoever plays. But someone has to win, and history will forever show that as being Norths. I was priviledged to help our WRFU President, Kerry Walsh, hand out the Medals to the victorious Norths Premiers. Both Captains spoke very well also to their Opposition, their respective Teams, the Referees and of course, their Supporters. A wonderful day for Wellington Club Rugby.
One hell of a week for All Black Rugby. If you have not already done so, may I suggest you read Steve Hansen's article on Stuff. Steve has a real go at the NZRU and their handling of any issues coming their way. We all know "airing your dirty washing" in Public is not the done thing - and especially so from an iconic organisation such as NZRU. Be interesting to see who gets shot next!
This weekend sees Tawa RFC Premier 2's vs OBU in quarter finals at home, followed by the Reserves vs Upper Hutt at Newlands Park. Our Colts are in a quarter final playoff against OBU at Nairnville.
Sunday has our Wellington Pride playing Waikato at Jerry Collins Stadium at 1405hrs.
On the Motor Racing scene, we had Kiwis to the fore at the IndyCar race in Iowa. Scott McLaughlin came in 3rd with Scott Dixon 4th. That position now puts Dixon at 4th in Points Standing, being 34 points from the Leader, Ericsson.
