Another great sporting weekend with local Rugby, International Rugby and Supercars!

Saturday was always going to be an interesting day for our Premiers out at Poneke. The breeze always runs North to South or vice versa. And, Poneke are always our nemesis opponent. This was our opportunity in the Preliminary Quarters, to find what our Boys are made of. Step up they did, with a convincing win.

Our Premier 2's continued on their winning way with a massacre of a hapless Avalon. Avalon tried and did manage a converted try, but our Boys just seem to finish things and have a very good defence pattern.

Our Colts had a tough day against OBU, but our Reserve Boys had a good win against Pare-Plim.

On to the AB's. Perhaps Cane should have gone off and left Ardie on the Field. I do not believe our AB Captain has the mettle to be a Leader. Quite frankly, he lost me and I suggest thousands of other Rugby Fans when he made a statement after a loss a couple of years ago when he said "the Rugby public have no idea of how Rugby is played ....' (or words to that effect). He hardly acknowledged that Ireland was in NZ, let alone the Irish beat us. We lack leadership at all levels. There were a couple of selections that defied belief from a purists perspective. Lets see this Saturday. Personally, I could never back any Team against the AB's, but I may well refrain from having a Bet!

Tuesday was a fizzer. Although the MAB's came back (with the help of Love), I guess the Irish wanted it more. In my day, Reserves were there in case of injury - nowadays, they are impact Players and as such should be put on the Field earlier than 20 minutes to go. I am reminded of great impact Players like Sione Lauaki - awesome off the Bench. Knew his role and carried it out to the N'th degree! We could have had the MAB game with a bit of forethought.

On to Supercars. The Boys were in Townsville last weekend, a beautiful part of Australia. After watching Shane van Gisbergen in Race 19, I decided that I would rather run across the Serengeti in my Mangatainoka Jandals with a pack of hungry Hyenas chasing me, rather than have The Giz chasing me - either way, you are gonna get caught! Shane (in a Holden) took both races.

Two other Kiwi Drivers to look out for. Mat Payne racing in Super 2 class and Callum Hedge racing a Porsche.
