Readers may have noticed that I did not comment on the All Blacks game last week. There is no doubt that the Wallabies should have won. We can debate the pros and cons until the Cows come home, but the final result stands. If we were the AB's of the past, we would have closed the Wallabies out at 31-13. Lets not be too harsh though, the Wallabies did not
give up and deserved to be ahead. And then - the moment of the Match! I cannot help but wonder what would have been, had the shoe been on the other foot. This final moment became the focal point of the Game. If this does not make the Wallabies hungry next Saturday, then nothing ever will.
Now that a Referee has been brave enough to show up the
"mucking about" antics of kickers, will this now highlight some other time-wasters in Rugby;
- The Argentine kicker
- The bouncing of the ball at kickoff from 2 to up to 8 times
- Meetings taking place before Lineouts
- Scrums going on forever
- Sevens stars seemingly doing dance steps to kick off ball (NZ Women worst offenders)
- Players in Sevens making big breaks, then waiting for opposition to get near before grounding the Ball
- Drinks break
- Injured Players pushing the envelope then jogging back to position
- ............ and so it goes on. I am sure Readers can put a bunch more on the list.
As Players, Coaches and Supporters, all we ask for is consistency. Lets hope the IRB back Mr
Raynal and issue an edict on "TIME WASTING!"
Saturday I watched the second half of Centurions vs Tasman B. Good to see Hugo and Akira playing, and Lepi at the game.
A couple of
big Games this weekend. On the local front, Wellington Lions defending the Log O Wood - huge for us Lions Supporters.
