Tawa RFC 75th Anniversay - one word, HISTORIC!! What a weekend, well organised, well attended and for sure, well remembered! Everywhere you looked on Friday night were happy faces, stories being told and (I believe) no lies. It was pumping! It was great to catch up with Ray Te Wake from Whangarei again, not to mention Rip Shit from somewhere up North. It was also wonderful to catch up with possibly our most Senior Player from way back - Harold Thomas. Harold, after all these years, considers Tawa to be his Club. As a result of our meeting, Harold will be starting to watch our games on Tawa Rugby via YouTube.

I reckon everybody caught up with countless old Mates, memories of days gone by and new Mates and memories. All I spoke to were impressed in how the Club has evolved with a great bunch of Players, Coaches/Managers and all involved in their beloved Club.

Last year I mentioned that Tawa will hopefully once again have an 85 Team for the 2022 Season. Now this did not happen, and to be honest, the climate (Covid) was not right. After speaking with Jono, Jonty and Mitchell on the weekend, I feel we are a number of steps closer. For those anaware, there is a nationwide competition for Under 85 Teams, culminating with a televised Final. Based on the 85's we used to have, I think we can be pretty competitive pretty quickly. Watch this space.

Saturday morning I visited Mary Crowther Park in Wainuiomata to watch my Nieces' children play. The Park was in exactly the same condition as when I brought the Tawa Senior Thirds here over 20 years ago. That aside, both Vali and Angus scored tries for their Petone side. Whilst watching this Game, I heard and saw a Parent on the Field behind me running the sideline and yelling "Smash them!" Not very impressed. A short time later I spoke to Mike Woollett (Petone Club Captain) who heard the same and told the Parent "they are kids - tackle them, not smash them". Well done Double O!

I have had some very positive feedback about my paragraph last week on Mental Well-Being. If you are ever so slightly unsure of this phenomenon, then I suggest you watch Match Fit and East Coast Rising, currently on TV. You will be quite blown away, as I have been, when these iconic All Blacks tell us about their darkest moments. All we see is tough Guys playing for their Country - until this program comes along.

Very enlightening as well as being two good shows.

On to a bit of Rugby Some good special Games on Saturday with Tawa College vs Newlands College and the Prezzies vs J'ville. Our Premier 2's had another huge win against OBU setting them up for a top of the Table battle with number 2, HOBM next week at home. The Premiers made up for the draw with OBU 4 weeks ago. A bit tight, but a win. For their efforts, our Premier Team takes on OBU again in the Quarter Finals. If we dont know each others play by now - well who knows? Dont forget, our Premiers were 6th at this time last Season.

Two Home Games at The Fortress - got to be good!
