Hi ,
I started the day with a WRFU presentation of the Rebecca Liua'ana Trophy at Evans Bay. The Ories Ladies had won the Cup a couple of weeks back after recounts etc, to find the eventual Winner. On this day the Ories Ladies beat MSP Ladies and it was my privilege to present the Cup for the WRFU. Incidently, it was a very good game with great skill shown from both Teams.
Another good weekend for Tawa Rugby. The Premier's took another win, this time against an Upper Hutt Rams side that never really lay down - and never do. The Rams always seem to pull a few things out of the bag when needed. Many a Tawa Supporter has made the pilgrimmage up North-East to be either surprised or miffed as they checked their Visa for re-entry to Tawa, over the years.
The Premier 2's had another good win on their way to securing the Harper Lock Shield. I shall leave my comments on these Boys until next week.
Tawa Colts had a convincing win over J'ville, placing them 5th on the Table. The Reserve Boys also had a good win over OBU Righteous Brothers, placing them 4th in Div 2. I believe the Prezzies may have come second.
Super Rugby broke all the molds on the weekend. Crusaders the most convincing with a 13 point lead over the Reds and Moana Pacific a convincing win over the Brumbies - the highest placed Aussie Team on the Ladder. And then we had a Chiefs 1 point win over Fijian Drua, Blues 3 points over Warratahs, Hurricanes a 5 point loss to Western Force and the Highlanders a 1 point loss to the Rebels. I have to go back to
Du Plessis Kirifi when he respectfully suggested that in past years, Aussie in some cases have been "easy beats", but no longer. In fact I feel some of the Games have been almost Test Matches in disguise. The influence of arguably one of the World's best International Coaches is pretty easy to see.
